Cannot Pin Programs To Toolbar Since Last Update

Win10 has just updated and I now cannot access my old desktop profile.
In addition, all my regular programs that were pinned to the toolbar have disappeared as well as their listing in 'All Apps' unless they are MS progs. I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 that I just upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday. It's been working mostly without a hitch, but I've run into the dreaded 'constant refresh' problem with the desktop and toolbar. It happens maybe every minute or so. I usually like to have my desktop icons on the toolbar instead of the screen (like to see full theme).
Now the funny thing is that if I decide to show desktop on toolbar sometimes removable drives and even all hard drives will show on desktop toolbar but not on screen.

I managed to change the search engine to Google in the new Win10 search located in the menu and also in Edge.
