Later, the film was dubbed into Telugu as Lakshmi Durga (1990) and dubbed into Hindi as Devi Aur Durga (1992). The film was remade in Kannada as Bhairavi in 1991. In Kannada, Baby Shamili enacted in the same role.
Lakshmi Sharma is an Indian actress.[1] After debuting in Telugu cinema, where she failed to gain a foothold, she became a sought-after actress in Malayalam cinema, after entering the industry in 2006 with Palunku. She has acted in few Kannada films as well.[2][3][4][5][6]
Career[edit]
She hails from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.[7][8] She was born into a Brahmin family to a Telugu father and a Kannada mother.[7] Her father worked in the Postal department and her mother at the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).[7]
After her parents' retirement, the family settled in Hyderabad. She wanted to become an actress in the Telugu film industry and debuted in a supporting role in E. V. V. Satyanarayana's Ammo Okato Thareeku (2000).[7] She went on to lead roles in the films Manamiddaram and Vacchina Vaadu Suryudu, which failed, before she got a role in the Chiranjeevi film Indra (2002). Her role as the niece of Chiranjeevi's character in the film was noted. She said that other than that film she hadn't 'any moment of luck or happiness' in the industry. Disappointed with the response in Telugu, she moved to the Malayalam film industry where she rose to fame.[7]
She made her Malayalam debut in Palunku in 2006.[9][10] Although the film did not do well, she was continuously offered roles and was one of the busiest and most prolific actresses in Malayalam cinema by 2009.[11]

Durga is 1990 Tamilchildren's film, directed and written by Rama Narayanan, with dialogue written by Pugazhmani. Music was by Shankar Ganesh. The film stars Baby Shamili (Dual role) playing the titular role, with Nizhalgal Ravi, Kanaka and Kitty playing lead with Sathyapriya, Vagai Chandrasekhar, Senthil and Venniradai Moorthy playing a pivotal role.[1][2] The movie fared well at the box office. The film was dubbed into Telugu as Lakshmi Durga in 1990 and dubbed into Hindi as Devi Aur Durga in 1992. Also, the film was remade in Kannada as Bhairavi in 1991.[3]
Plot[edit]
Durga (Baby Shamili) is the only daughter of a wealthy couple. After her father's early death, Durga's uncle (Kitty) tries to seize all the wealth and kills Durga's mother (Sathyapriya). Kitty also plans to kill Durga, but she escapes with the help of her pets - a monkey (Ramu) and a dog (Raja). Durga meets Muthu (Nizhalgal Ravi), an innocent guy and befriends him. Kannamma (Kanaka) is a karakattam dancer and she falls in love with Muthu and they both decide to help Durga.
Meanwhile, Kitty searches for Durga to kill her so that he can enjoy the wealth. Durga returns to her home along with Muthu and Kannamma, which shocks Kitty as Durga is protected by them now. Surprisingly, Kitty meets Malliga (Baby Shamili - dual role), a look-alike of Durga. Malliga is the daughter of a poor disabled guy (Vaagai Chandrasekhar). Kitty forces Malliga to act as Durga by threatening to kill her father, so that he can create chaos between the two and in the process he can kill the real Durga.
Finally, there comes a situation where both Durga and Malliga have to walk over the fire in a temple to prove their real identity. Durga successfully walks over the fire. But before Malliga starts walking, her father comes and rescues her. He also informs about Kitty's plans to everyone and Kitty gets arrested. In the end, Durga accepts Malliga in her house. Muthu and Kannamma also stay with them.
